In accordance to the task assigned by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces concerning enhancing combat operations of the aviation in the Syrian Arab Republic, crews of Tu-160, Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 long-range aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out strikes with air-based cruise missiles at the ISIS terrorist objects within the air operation.

Two days ago, from 0500-0530h (MSK), 12 Tu-22M3 long-range bombers carried out strikes at the IS terrorist facilities in Raqqah and Deir-ez-Zor provinces. From 0900-0940h, Tu-160 and Tu-95MS launched 34 air-based cruise missiles at terrorist objects located in Aleppo and Idlib. All strikes are performed against the targets, which had been registered in advance.

In total, in the course of the first day of the air operation, 127 combat sorties engaging 206 terrorist facilities have been planned. By now, the Russian aviation have performed 82 combat sorties and engaged 140 objects of illegal armed groups. The operation is being continued. Subsequent massive airstrikes will be carried out in accordance to the air operation plan. The number of combat sorties carried out by the Russian Aerospace Forces is increased in two times. That allows performing crushing and pinpoint strikes against the IS militants all over the territory of Syria.

Known for his hardline stance and strong public remarks, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s latest quotable quote has been making the rounds on social media. A tweet by Ms Remi Maalouf, a news anchor with television channel Russia Today, highlights Putin’s colourful take on terrorism: “To forgive them is up to God, but to send them to him is up to me.”

In the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks on 13 November, which killed at least 129 people, Russia and France agreed to coordinate their military and security services against IS militants in Syria. Putin, speaking to his top military officials, had vowed merciless retaliation for the attacks, as warplanes from both countries unleashed bombs on the IS stronghold of Raqa earlier this week.

The urgency of the unusual alliance was also due to Tuesday’s revelation that IS was responsible for planting a homemade bomb that ripped apart a Russian passenger jet over Egypt on 31 October. That incident claimed the lives of all 224 passengers on board, most of whom were Russians returning home from a vacation. Putin responded by saying it was one of the bloodiest acts in modern Russian history, vowing that the effort to bring ISIS to justice would be relentless.

We will search for them everywhere wherever they are hiding. We will find them anywhere on the planet and punish them,” he added.
