UMS Skeldar is a UAV specialist, covering both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Following a very recent joint venture with Saab, UMS Aero became UMS Skeldar as it took over Saab’s SKLADAR range, making it a very big player in the UAV marketplace.
David Willems, Business Development Director of UMS Skeldar, explained that the merger of the unmanned aircraft businesses of UMS Aero of Switzerland and Saab in Sweden has created one of the world’s largest designers and manufacturers of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS). Operating under the name UMS Skeldar, the new venture includes a portfolio of rotary and fixed wing RPAS in addition to ground stations and software to support aircraft and training programmes. The new line-up, including an endurance range that covers 4-12 hours plus, is showcased at the airshow.
Willems also announced a number of managed services and training contracts that have been won in Europe, the US, South East Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, delivering capability packages to agencies across the globe, which incorporate solutions for border surveillance, cross boarder smuggling, urban surveillance, and pipeline protection.
