At SOFIC, General Dynamics is showing three different configurations of the FLYER tactical vehicles. The Flyer family of modular, 4x4 mission-ready platforms bring superior capability and mobility to the special operator’s ever-changing mission needs. The vehicles are built for speed, endurance and transportability, and are capable of extended range across rugged terrain. They are easily reconfigured to support multiple crew and mission profiles, from three to nine operators with full payload and mission profile kits.
At their booth you can see the FYLER 72 in the SOCOM’s Ground Mobility Vehicle 1.1 (GMV1.1) configuration with a .50 caliber M2 machine gun. The GMV1.1 program has successfully completed Independent Operational Test and Evaluation (IOE&T) and has recently fielded vehicles with the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the 75th Ranger Regiment. An additional FLYER 72 is on display in a five-crew configuration with a lightweight GAU-19/B .50 caliber gatling gun mounted on the gun ring.
Also on display is a FLYER 60 ITV, the SOCOM’s Internally Transportable Vehicle (ITV), that is exhibited with a M240 machine gun on a Remote Weapon Station (RWS). At just 60-inches wide, it can be carried inside the V-22, CH-47 and CH-53, C-130 and C-5 aircraft, as well as slung by the UH-60 and CH-47 airframes. The vehicle’s modular approach allows SOCOM to rapidly reconfigure the platform providing enhanced protection, mobility, lethality and transportability across a spectrum of mission profiles.
The autonomous SandShark underwater vehicle (AUV) weighs less than 15-pounds and provides long endurance for extended underwater ISR missions. It is a lightweight, modular AUV that provides mission commanders and special operators with the flexibility to configure a SandShark to with a variety of sensors and mission packages.
.338 Norma Medium Machine Gun (MMG)
The MMG provides .50 caliber-like firepower in range and effect at the same weight and size of currently fielded 7.62mm machine guns. The gun offers unmatched accuracy and lethality while extending the battlespace out to an impressive 1,700 meters. The MMG’s portability combined with the superior ballistic coefficient of the .338 NM cartridge provides overmatch capability compared to other portable machine guns in the world.
NGFCS is an integrated module that gives the operator the ability to detect, recognize, identify and engage targets in both day and night conditions through day color video and night thermal imaging cameras. The system is designed and integrated with the MK47 and MK19 40mm Grenade Machine Guns as well as the M2/M2A1 .50 caliber machine gun.
