L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) opened and is supporting a new C-17 Training System (TS) site at Stewart Air National Guard Base (Stewart ANGB) in Newburgh, NY/USA. L-3 Link will support the training of 105th Airlift Wing C-17 pilots, loadmasters and maintenance engine run technicians. Annually, L-3 Link – prime contractor for the USAF’s C-17 TS programme – will deliver more than 360 courses and support 550 simulator training missions at Stewart ANGB.

L-3 Link instructors will give Stewart ANGB’s 105th Airlift Wing pilots, loadmasters and maintenance engine-run technicians refresher, upgrade and currency training using classroom and hands-on operations training in a realistic C-17 Weapon Systems Trainer and a C-17 Loadmaster Station Trainer. L-3 Link and C-17 TS team member AAI will provide contractor logistics support and maintenance of the site’s training devices.

The C-17 TS is one of the largest aircrew training systems within the USAF’s Air Mobility Command, with aircrew and maintenance training conducted at 12 installations in the US and one at the Royal Australian Air Force Base in Amberley, Australia. Annually, the C-17 TS trains more than 1,500 pilots and loadmasters using 23 variants of aircrew and maintenance training devices.

Air Force plans currently call for L-3 Link to open additional C-17 TS sites during 2014 at Memphis Air National Guard Base in Memphis, TN/USA and Martinsburg Air National Guard Base in Martinsburg, WV/USA.
