RUAG Defence awarded “Best Training Programme” in The New Economy Defence Awards, 2013. The award recognises RUAG’s vast expertise in simulation & training solutions, especially the GLADIATOR Man Worn Unit for live-action training.
The New Economy Defence Awards 2013 deliver an impartial appraisal of leading global defence companies. Members of the industry make nominations for companies that are not only driving the industry through innovation, but who also promote the highest standards in ethics and corporate citizenship. As the winner of “Best Training Programme”, RUAG is recognised as a leading partner for forces who want to maintain and improve their readiness in realistic and cost effective ways.
The GLADIATOR Man Worn Unit is RUAG’s modular live-action training system. It comprises of a helmet unit, an integrated harness unit and a laser unit. Together they enable fire and movement training for individual soldiers through to a whole brigade. Participants learn using GLADIATOR personal weapon handling, individual and group ground tactics and operational techniques. Deployable in both open and urban environments the system caters for a wide range of weapons and operates in conjunction with vehicles, all serving to expand and improve effective training. Participant’s situational awareness and responsiveness is increased with audio and visual effects that correspond to the weapons and scenario deployed.
Designed using high quality Swiss technology, GLADIATOR incorporates both one-way and two-way laser technology. The two-way technology is able to transmit the ballistic data of the weapon to improve realism, and is used depending on the specific needs of customers. This flexible approach to requirements continues throughout the additional features of the system, allowing users to choose from a variety of options including; positioning information, medical support, wound models and graphical hit representation.
The real-time flow of information through cameras and positioning systems to the training headquarters heightens the training's effectiveness. This is analysed by the trainers who can intervene if necessary to keep the scenario as effective as possible. Thanks to data capture everything is available for participants after the training in the after action review, improving their perspective on how performances can be improved.
In addition to its live-action trainings capabilities, RUAG is also an accomplished providers of virtual training solutions. These systems incorporate real interfaces into virtual environments and can be used to train drivers, turret teams and whole crews on a number of vehicles.
As the official supplier of simulation and training solutions to the Swiss Army, RUAG have a long history of developing innovative ways to train soldiers in a safe, cost effective but above all realistic way.
Oliver Meyer VP Simulation & Training, RUAG Defence explained, “being recognised for our solutions is always a great honour. The Gladiator is an excellent example of our training products. We aim to provide powerful and scalable solutions for effective mission preparation, and for the sustained training of troops in peace time. We will continue to invest in and develop GLADIATOR to meet the evolving needs of tomorrow’s forces.”
