The V-22 offers three time of the range and twice the speed of a normal helicopter, but still VTOL capabilities. 360 V-22 are ordered by the USMC, the Navy plans (Navy Carrier Onboard Delivery mission) are not funded yet and USSOCOM is also using the V-22. New technology development foreseen an aerial refueling kit (V-22 as an airborne refueling platform for VTOL and jets, a 1st demonstration was done), C4ISR and additional network capabilities as well as weapon options (an interchangeable 500 lbs pod for missiles or guns). The weapon solution is in design phase with flight tests between end of 2014 or early 2015. The USMC is planning to use the V-22 for 40 years and longer and after each mission the requirements are adapted. So Boeing is in close talks to the USMC and is expecting a mid-life upgrade for the V-22 by mid 2020s.
Israel is the first international operator (configuration is just set) of the V-22 and there is strong interest in Japan, UAE and other nations, according to Boeing.
There are five new contracts for the CH-47 CHINOOK (2x Europe, 2x Arabic area and India). The US Army is planning to use the CHINOOK up to 2062 (introduction of Future Vertical Lift) – so end of production would be 2019. But with a growing need and interest around the world that will be extended. The users are always asking for more payload – because the equipment (e.g. armored vehicles) are getting heavier. Boeing CH-47 Enhancement Project consists: Improved drive train, new airframe with weight reduction and improved vibration control system, advanced rotor blades with increased lift and efficiency and a new cargo loading system with quick mission conversion (cargo/troops). Boeing sees at least two more insertions CH-47G/H until then. The 1st new MH-47G was built on 25thSeptember 2014. But before the CHINOOK will need a new engine by 2025. That should also bring an additional lift capacity (+4,000 lbs).
