Exelis has been awarded two direct commercial contracts valued at $30 million and $28 million (respectively) to provide an existing international customer single and dual vehicular radios systems along with installation kits and dismounted soldier radio systems; and to provide an existing international customer with additional communications equipment, spare parts and ancillary devices. Under the $30 mil-contract, Exelis will deliver the RT-1702 SINCGARS for installation in a wide variety of military vehicles, while Communications equipment acquired under the $28 mil-contract includes the RT-1702 SINCGARS, with installation kits and spares to support the system.

Exelis has sold more than 600,000 SINCGARS radios along with supporting ancillary devices worldwide. This fifth-generation SINCGARS capability is one half the size of the original radio, contains integrated capability improvements, and maintains a robust encryption protocol. The radio is designed to provide voice and network data services in both mounted and dismounted configurations. In the mounted role, the radio works with the Exelis Internet controller to provide mobile network data services. As a manpack, the radio provides a standard interface allowing a command and control application to access the Tactical Internet.
The orders are “from a long-standing international customer that recognises not only the robustness of the SINCGARS radio, but also the technological upgrades that have kept it on the cutting edge of battlefield communications,” said Ken Harrison, the Vice President and General Manager of Exelis Night Vision & Communications Solutions.
