From Greece, Miltech Hellas is currently under contract with Saudi Arabia for the delivery of 500 MLT-IRS-60 weapon thermal sights, previously having delivered a first batch of 500 of these sights to the kingdom. Speaking to MT at DSEI, Miltech Hellas' president Constantine Koutsos, indicated that a third contract for a further 1,000 MLT-IRS-60 sights is now in the making. Part of a family of uncooled shutterless thermal sights that also include the MLT-IRS-35, MLT-IRS-65LW and MLT-IRS-80, the MLT-IRS-60 weighs approximately 1,000 grams and uses a Gen 3 IR sensor. Applicable to light and heavy machineguns amongst others, its rail mounting is compatible with MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny features. The MLT-IRS-60 has a maximum optical magnification of 6.25 times while it also has up to four times digital zoom. The sight is powered by six AA commercial batteries or rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
Miltech Hellas' products also include the HDD-55L head down display for Dassault Mirage 2000 fighters. The display uses active matrix liquid crystal display technology and replaces the existing CRT units made by Thales, production of which has been stopped. The HDD-55L is fitted on all modernized Greek air force Mirage 2000EG/BG fighters while seven units have been sold to Egypt for installation on some of its Mirage 2000EM/BM aircraft. Koutsos expects an order with Egypt for the supply of a further 17 units to materialize in the near future. He also mentioned Peru as a potential customer with the air force of the South American country having issued a RFP for new head down displays recently.
Already involved in the Rafale programme for the French air force, Miltech Hellas struck a deal with Dassault for the delivery of a further 48 sets of electrical power boxes during the recent Paris air show. The contract with the French aircraft manufacturer is a result of the recent ordering of 48 Rafale combat aircraft by Egypt and Qatar. On top of this, the Greek company manufactures communications accessories such as loudspeakers for Thales while it also supplies all the bay and subfloor electrical harnesses for the NH Industries NH90.
